Clinical Pearls for the Assessment of Acute Knee Injuries

Join Banff Sport Medicine’s team of orthopaedic surgeons, sport medicine physicians and physiotherapists for this practical session on assessing acute knee injuries. Case presentations will be used to discuss clinical pearls including history, diagnostic imaging, special tests, and differential diagnosis. Small group practice of clinical assessment, including special test techniques, will improve your confidence. Please note this session will take place across the street from the Coast Hotel at Banff Sport Medicine (maximum 45 participants).

Concussion

With the growing understanding of concussions and their long-term impact, physiotherapy is playing a pivotal role in both the diagnosis and management of this complex injury.

This session will provide highlights from Amsterdam, screening and diagnosis of concussion, rehabilitation and return to sport and applying principles to practice through case studies.

As pelvic health gains recognition for its critical role in overall well-being, Physiotherapists are well positioned to have a significant impact on the quality of life of individuals across the lifespan.

Your conference registration includes the Friday evening welcome reception, including light appetizers. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday. Saturday evening entertainment. Breakfast on Sunday. There are tickets available for purchase so a guest (adults only) can join you at the Friday welcome reception and Saturday evening dinner. Conference programming is available to registered conference attendees ONLY.

While we have secured a very competitive rate and there is the ease of staying on-site where all conference activities are happening, you are welcome to stay anywhere you would like. Please note, there are a limited number of rooms available at the preferred rate at the Coast Hotel, so book your room early. Yes, there is a parking lot available. For Hotel Guests staying overnight, there is a self-parking fee $10 per day per vehicle (first come first serve) that will be applied to the guestroom. Guests must register their car licence plate at check in (one car per room maximum).

For any event attendees not staying overnight at the Coast Canmore Hotel & Conference Centre parking is available at a reduced hourly charge by use of the Indigo Neo App. If the parking lot is full there is some street parking available that is within walking distance of the hotel. Carpooling is recommended where possible.

If you are flying in for the conference, the closest airport is Calgary International Airport (roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes away).

In order to qualify as a student you must currently be enrolled in a Master of Physical Therapy Program.

Will Gadd

Athlete, Speaker & Guide

Will Gadd grew up in a hardcore mountain family, and then went farther. Some of his earliest memories are of epic backpacking trips and winter ski tours. His first serious sport was caving, followed by kayaking, climbing and paragliding . His wild career spans more than 30 years of high adventure from Africa to Greenland.

In 2015, Will was the first person to scale the ice-covered rock wall next to Horseshoe Fall at Niagra Fall.

He is an ACMG Alpine Guide, and also holds professional certifications for facilitation, avalanche forecasting, diving and paragliding. Gadd was host of the Discovery Channel’s popular documentary series, “Fearless Planet,” and since then he’s continued a rigorous schedule of adventure, speaking engagements, film and TV work, guiding, teaching, and coaching.

He is currently working on a new television series on the “most radical” places on earth and a book titled “Surviving and Thriving in High-Hazard Environments,” based on his own experiences and work/interviews with leading corporate, military, medical and outdoor risk management experts.

He lives in Canmore with his wife and two daughters.

Matthew Corkum, PHD

Seeing the Ability in disAbility

Passionate, full of animation and energy as a speaker, Matthew never backs down from difficult topics. He has always pushed the limits through his life to prosper in a wide range of environments, regardless of living with cerebral palsy.

Valediction of Acadia University’s class of 2006, Matthew went on to achieve a PhD in atmospheric science at York University and now works as head meteorologist in Calgary. He not only knows how to track the weather, he knows what it is like to be excluded, bullied, and discriminated against.

He is a Director of Rocky Mountain Adaptive and on the Community Advisory member of Calgary Adaptive hub and past member of the City of Calgary’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility. He was chosen in 2023 as one of Calgary’s Top 40 under 40 by Avenue Magazine for his advocacy and speaking on inclusion of those with disabilities.

Doing his first physiotherapy session at 20 months old, Matthew enjoys sharing what works and what doesn’t when you are treating someone with cerebral palsy.

Getting Started

1. Set Up Your Account Profile

Your first step is to visit the My Account page. Here, you can set up your account with a name, logo, or photo to represent you or your clinic. This profile is where you’ll manage all your listings, from job postings to professional development opportunities.

Remember, a detailed profile increases your visibility and effectiveness across the AAP community

2. ADD YOUR 'FIND A PHYSIO' LISTING

New Find a Physio directory is launching soon!

If you’ve already created a profile or claimed a clinic, it will seamlessly transition to the new tool, allowing you to edit it. For those who haven’t created a profile yet, you’ll be able to do so once the new tool is launched.

Next, let’s ensure you’re discoverable in our ‘Find A Physio’ database (launching soon!).

  1. Get Started: Select ‘Create a Physiotherapist Listing‘ in your Guest Non-Member Dashboard and opt for the free non-member plan. Ensure your practice stands out by accurately completing your form. Be sure to complete as many of the fields as possible, including conditions treated, treatment types, languages, etc. The more information included in your listing, the more likely you are to be found by Albertans needing your services.
  2. NOTE: Please make sure you’ve added your location on the map. If you don’t want to list your physical address, you can list your postal code and primary city (or just the city). 
  3. Clinic Listings: While completing your Physiotherapist profile, you’ll have the option to link your profile to the clinics where you work. Our database already includes many clinics across Alberta, aiming for comprehensive coverage. If you’re part of multiple clinics, you can link each one to your profile for broader visibility.
    • Missing Clinic? If your clinic isn’t listed, encourage the clinic owner, director or manager to create their guest account and submit their listing. Be sure to include critical information like conditions treated, treatment types, business hours and more. 
  4. Claim an Existing Clinic: If your clinic is pre-listed, take a moment to claim it. Personalize your clinic’s profile with specialties, treatment types, business hours, logos, and photos. A robust profile increases your clinic’s visibility, helping Albertans find the right care quickly and easily. To claim and take ownership of an existing Clinic listing find and open your clinic listing, click on the ‘Claim’ button at the bottom of the listing and follow the prompts.
  5. Complete Your Listing: Submit the form and and you’ll be taken to checkout. There is no cost for creating your physiotherapy or clinic listing. Complete checkout for free and publish your listing. 

Please Note: The Find a Physio Directory is launching soon! Although the search function is currently under refinement, completing this step will ensure you’re visible in our database as soon as it goes live.

3. CREATE YOUR other LISTINGS

Job Board: Reach over 3,312 physiotherapists with your job postings, up for 30 days. You can renew your listing as many times as needed. To get started, Add a job board listing.

Marketplace: Utilize our marketplace to sell services or equipment, or post about available office space. Renewals available. Get started selling in the marketplace.

Professional Development Opportunities: Share your courses or workshops for 30 days, making it accessible to a wide network of professionals. Listing renewal is available. Publish your Professional Development Opportunity.

To publish your listing, follow the prompts and fill out all fields comprehensively. Paid listings will prompt you for credit card payment. Some postings may require AAP administrator review or approval before being published.

MANAGE YOUR LISTINGS

You can return to your profile at any time to update, revise, or renew your listings. Staying active and current amplifies your reach and engagement within Alberta’s physiotherapy community.

  2. NOTE: Please make sure you’ve added your location on the map. If you don’t want to list your physical address, you can list your postal code and primary city (or just the city).
  3. Clinic Listings: While completing your Physiotherapist profile, you’ll have the option to link your profile to the clinics where you work. Our database already includes many clinics across Alberta, aiming for comprehensive coverage. If you’re part of multiple clinics, you can link each one to your profile for broader visibility.
    • Missing Clinic? If your clinic isn’t listed, encourage the clinic owner , director or manager to create their listing and include critical information like conditions treated, treatment types, business hours and more. If the clinic owner or manager is not an AAP member, they can still list their clinic under a guest account.
  4. Claim an Existing Clinic: If your clinic is pre-listed, take a moment to claim it. Personalize your clinic’s profile with specialties, treatment types, business hours, logos, and photos. A robust profile increases your clinic’s visibility, helping Albertans find the right care quickly and easily. To claim and take ownership of an existing Clinic listing find and open your clinic listing, click on the ‘Claim’ button at the bottom of the listing and follow the prompts.
  5. Complete Your Listing:  Submit the form and and you’ll be taken to checkout. There is no cost for creating your physiotherapy or clinic listing. Complete checkout for free and publish your listing.

Please Note: The Find a Physio Directory is launching soon! Although the search function is currently under refinement, completing this step will ensure you’re visible in our database as soon as it goes live.

If you’ve already created a profile or claimed a clinic, it will seamlessly transition to the new tool, allowing you to edit it. For those who haven’t created a profile yet, you’ll be able to do so once the new tool is launched.

  • Create a New Topic: Within the chosen forum, scroll down to the New Topic fields.
  • Enter a Title: Craft a specific and clear title for your topic.
  • Write Your Post: Share your question, insight, or information. Aim for clarity and brevity.
  • Submit Your Topic: Once you’ve composed your post, click “Submit” to publish it.
Replying to a Topic or Thread
  • Select a Topic: Navigate to the topic you wish to respond to.
  • Write Your Response: Directly compose your reply at the end of the thread.
  • Submit Your Reply: After writing your response, click “Submit” to add it to the discussion.
