The Opportunity
RVS invites applications from qualified individuals for a continuing, full-time (35 hours per week) Physical Therapist position on a 10-month school calendar schedule starting August 26, 2025.

The Physical Therapist provides physical therapy to referred students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 within inclusive learning environments. The successful candidate will bring an advanced level of expertise, which includes providing specialized supports to students who have been identified with severe, multiple, complex needs.

The successful candidate must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License in order to provide services to all RVS locations.

Responsibilities

-Conducts physical therapy services within the context of typical classroom activities
-Provides physiotherapy services as per the recommendation of the student(s)' medical professionals where appropriate in an educational setting
-Monitors student progress by providing ongoing observation/assessment of development especially in the areas of seating, positioning, and ambulation skills within a functional context
-Administers, scores, and interprets standardized and non-standardized/functional pediatric therapy assessments
Provides in-service professional development for school staff regarding issues included in the realm of physical therapy transfer techniques, body mechanics, and safety for the student(s) and staff
-Develops goals, strategies, and activities that integrate seamlessly into lessons and other school activities and are connected to the student(s)' Individual Program Plan
-Collaborates with both the school and the divisional learning support teams, as both teams work together to support and facilitate the student(s)' program plan
-Builds capacity with all caregivers such as teachers, educational assistants, and parents

Education/Experience

-Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy
-Expertise in identifying, diagnosing and planning therapeutic intervention for students with: neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, syndromes such as Down’s syndrome, Prader- Willi, and Rett’s syndromes; developmental disorders such as developmental coordination disorders, Autism spectrum disorder, and others affecting mobility
-Registration, in good standing, with Physiotherapy Alberta - College and Association including continuing professional development as per guidelines
-Registered authorizer with Alberta Health Services Aids to Daily Living Program
