Educating The Public
The New Health Revolution
Physiotherapy in Alberta is up against a major hurdle – a lack of awareness about what we do and why it matters. Many don’t understand that our work goes beyond rehab and into preventative care, and our profession often gets overlooked in key healthcare discussions. This lack of visibility means the true value of physiotherapy isn’t fully recognized.
That’s where the Alberta Association of Physiotherapy (AAP) comes in. We’re on a mission to raise the profile of physiotherapy throughout Alberta. We’re working on strategies highlighting physiotherapy’s vital role as part of primary healthcare – as important as having a family doctor.
Yes, our industry faces challenges. And we’re meeting them head-on. The AAP is pushing for better compensation and career opportunities for physiotherapists. We advocate for greater access to physiotherapy services, especially in underserved communities.
We’re boosting recognition for our profession while working to improve the health and wellness of all Albertans. It’s about time physiotherapy is valued for what it truly is – a key player in healthcare.

The AAP is looking ahead. As healthcare in Alberta evolves, we’re at the forefront of developing emerging roles for physiotherapy. We are shaping health policies, championing fair wages and practices, and raising the bar in public health awareness.
We’re in this for the long haul, building strong relationships within Alberta Health Services and beyond. Until the value of physiotherapy is fully recognized.

AAP and the CPA
Stronger Together
In 2020, Bill 46, the Health Provisions Act, was passed, requiring the Physiotherapy Alberta College + Association to separate the College’s regulatory activities from its association-related member support services. Leading to the creation of a new, independent Alberta Association of Physiotherapy (AAP) focused purely on advocating for and supporting its members.
Thanks to the dedication of Alberta’s physiotherapy community, including our inaugural board of passionate physiotherapists, the AAP was launched in 2022. Now free to work entirely in the best interest of our members.
The CPA continues to support and advocate for all physiotherapists at the national level.
This change marks a significant milestone for physiotherapy in Alberta, enabling improved health outcomes and quality of life for Albertans. As AAP and CPA members, you can expect more exciting developments, greater support, and an elevated status in Alberta healthcare.

Letter From Our CEO
Jen Panteluk, MBA
It has been nothing short of a privilege to work as CEO of the Alberta Association of Physiotherapy since late 2022.
In all my conversations with physiotherapists in Alberta, whether they are in remote locations, rural communities, or large urban centers, what I have discovered is a vibrant collection of inspired and passionate people, genuinely engaged in providing exceptional care to their clients.
My primary goal is to make sure we effectively represent and support physiotherapists in Alberta. The AAP has 3 key functions: Educate, Advocate and Build Community. It is our job to let the public know all the ways that our industry can support them in their wellness journey. We also act as the voice of physiotherapy to policy makers, ensuring that our industry is at the forefront of their decision making. Finally, we want to build a strong community that supports physiotherapists through opportunities for connecting and learning.
As we carry on with our work, please know that you are welcome at the AAP. We want to connect with you and expand our reach to all physiotherapists in our province. If you have questions, please reach out to me at anytime: ceo@albertaphysio.com
Warmly,
Jen
