About This Opportunity

Who is eligible to take the GLA:D Back Clinician Training

GLA:D Back Clinician Training is appropriate for the following health and exercise professionals who have comprehensive knowledge of exercise prescription and who work with individuals with chronic low back pain / chronic musculoskeletal conditions. Course participants must be residing in and eligible to practice in Canada.

  • Registered Physiotherapists
  • Registered Chiropractors
  • Registered Occupational Therapists
  • Registered Physicians
  • Registered Nurses / Nurse Practitioners
  • Kinesiologists*. In Ontario, registration must be with the College Kinesiologists of Ontario. In other provinces, individuals must be registered with their professional association.
  • Clinical Exercise Physiologists* certified by the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CEP) or American College of Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP)

*Please note that patients enrolling in a GLA:D Back program led by a Kinesiologist or a Clinician Exercise Physiologist will need to have a low back pain red flag screening / be cleared for exercise by a clinician whose scope of practice allows them to do so. The “screening” clinician does not need to be trained in GLA:D Back.

You may register for the course directly!

Health professionals from other disciplines are not currently eligible to take the training course. Clinicians outside of Alberta interested in implementing GLA:D Back at a site overseen by it’s own Research Ethics Board (i.e. most publicly-funded or university/hospital affiliated sites) will need to apply for and obtain approval from their own ethics board to offer GLA:D Back at their site. For more information, please reach out to your Research Ethics Board or our team directly for more information.

Our team looks forward to meeting you!

What is GLA:D Back?

The purpose of GLA:D Back is to help patients better manage persistent and/or recurrent low back pain themselves through a well-described and structured treatment program. The patient program includes structured patient education sessions and supervised exercise sessions over 7 weeks, a pre- and post-program assessment, and data registration. These components are recommended as first-line interventions in several international guidelines based on expert reviews of hundreds of randomized controlled trials (see Research and Annual Reports for more). Data from the program is entered in a secure clinical registry so that together, we create new knowledge about chronic low back pain and GLA:D Back can be continuously improved.
