About This Opportunity

PEAK Workshop I …..at the University of Calgary:

Do you love anatomy? Have you ever wished you could return to the anatomy lab and really learn MSK anatomy in an applied manner?  Then this workshop is what you are looking for!

The workshop curriculum has been carefully structured to provide ample time for an advanced review of relevant musculoskeletal anatomical structures using cadaveric resources and incorporating active review of frameworks for functional biomechanics to help strengthen exercise and rehabilitation practices.   This opportunity to visit (or revisit) the anatomy lab will provide an environment in which to delve into a deeper, more applied review of the intricacies of human structure and function.

Proposed Agenda:

Morning (8:30-12:15):   Review of lumbar spine & LE soft tissue components, compartments & neurovasculature in lab. (2.5hrs)

Mini-Lecture-Myths & truths of stretching; PFPS & the mystery of the vastus medialis oblique (1hr)

Afternoon (1:30-5:30):  Review of cervical spine & UE soft tissue components, compartments & neurovasculature in lab. (2.5hrs)

Mini-Lecture-How does force-couple, coupled movement and functional arthrokinematics in the body influence movement-based work? (1hr)

Registration spots are limited and there is a minimum registration threshold for the workshop to run.  It is recommended that you register early!

About the Organization

The Canadian Collaborative of Anatomy Educators (CCAE) has a main objective of connecting anatomy educators, technicians, administrators and trainees in anatomy across the country.  This organization is grounded in four core pillars that collectively maintain and advance excellence in anatomy education nationwide including national collaboration, stewardship of anatomical resources, and service to the broader community.

The pillar of Continuing Education for Exercise and Rehabilitation Specialists aims to provide high‑quality, applied anatomical and functional training for health and exercise professionals such as physiotherapists, kinesiologists, massage therapists, athletic therapists, personal trainers and fitness instructors.

Members of the CCAE are developing continuing education opportunities and the Professional Education in Anatomy & Kinetics (PEAK) workshops are the first of this initiative to launch this year.

These offerings are in partnership with major universities across Canada with established anatomy programs, award-winning educators and highly skilled graduate students who will facilitate the sessions to translate anatomical knowledge into applied practice.
